This report details MSF’s experience implementing treatment strategies to improve care and reduce costs for patients and health systems. It presents results of a survey conducted by MSF teams in 16 countries where MSF works. The 16 countries represent a mix of low, general and hyper-endemic countries, and together account for 52.5% of the global HIV/AIDS burden.

Impfungen haben im vergangenen Jahrhundert zu großen Erfolgen im Bereich der öffentlichen Gesundheit geführt. Zwei Hürden versperren jedoch für viele Menschen den Zugang zu Impfstoffen: zum einen sind neue Impfstoffe durch das gegenwärtige Patentsystem oft so teuer, dass sie für Menschen in ärmeren Ländern unbezahlbar sind. Zum anderen besteht für Pharmaunternehmen nur ein geringer Anreiz, Forschung zu Krankheiten zu betreiben, die hauptsächlich Menschen in ärmeren Ländern betreffen. Zudem sind viele Impfstoffe nicht für den Gebrauch in  strukturschwachen ärmeren Ländern geeignet. 

Das afghanische Gesundheitssystem hat sich offiziellen Angaben zufolge in den vergangenen Jahren positiv entwickelt. Die Wirklichkeit, die die Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter von Ärzte ohne Grenzen vor Ort sehen, ist indes vielerorts erschreckend. Aus diesem Grund luden wir 2014 in Berlin zu einer Konferenz ein, auf der Vertreterinnen und Vertreter der afghanischen und deutschen Zivilgesellschaft, Politiker und Militärs über die humanitären Probleme im Land diskutierten. Diese Broschüre spiegelt zentrale Erkenntnisse wider.

A review of the humanitarian aid system’s response to displacement emergencies in conflict contexts in South Sudan, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and Jordan, 2012-13.

The international humanitarian aid system has more means and resources at its disposal and greater know-how than ever before. But, on the ground, whether in Syria, DRC, South Sudan or the Central African Republic, MSF teams have repeatedly seen slow and cumbersome humanitarian responses, UN agencies and INGOs increasingly absent from field locations, many agencies concentrating only on the easiest-to-reach populations and ignoring the more difficult places and much more.

In this report we level criticism at the UN for its lack of flexibility and effectiveness. In particular, we highlight the way the current UN system inhibits good decision-making, in particular in displacement crises where a number of UN agencies have a responsibility to respond. We also put the choices made by INGOs, our peers, in the spotlight.
